The following sharp assessment came from an Anglican in Sydney, Australia: “I’m continually being disappointed by (bordering on disillusioned by) the institutional church. Institutional self-preservation seems more important than those on the front line who still minister to the physically, emotionally, and spiritually needy. . . . [Church] just doesn’t seem relevant to ‘modern’ lives.” And in an equally blunt observation, another noted, “Christianity has become a culture unto itself and has merely skimmed over what Jesus has said and is saying.”
